Dennis Grant Racing - Heathcote Top Bike meeting.

January 29 2005

Dennis and the team were up in Heathcote on the 29th of January for the Heathcote Harley drags. A really strong showing of bikes were on hand to run some really quick times, including teams from Perth, Queensland, and in our case, from South Australia. After getting a good night's rest on the Friday night, we arrived at the track early in the morning to prepare the bike for a big day's racing.

The weather was not looking good. It had been raining all day Friday and the track was wet when we arrived, however a lengthy cleanup and the track was dry by around 12.00 and we were all ready for our first pass. After starting the bike in the pits all was ready to go, the bike was sounding strong and we were confident we had it set up right.

After being towed up to the startline, Dennis was paired against Kim Stevens, from Perth. Dennis completed a strong, smoky burnout, and more than a few people were confident of seeing Dennis' bike get down the track under full power. The lights turned green and Dennis launched extremely well, and kept into it all the way to record a 7.38 second pass, at 179 mph. The first nitro bike to get down track all day and we were confident we could improve on the next pass.

The crew returned to the garage after the pass in high spirits, and placed the bike on the stand for between rounds maintenance. After consulting each other and deciding on how to set the bike up for the second round, the bike was once again fired up and sounding extremely well tuned.

Although that's as far as it got. The team was on the start line about to fire up the bike for their second qualifier however it rained for over 2 hours non stop, making it impossible to dry the track in time for them to finish the event. With over 150 bikes on hand for the day, it was a shame that Mother Nature ended this great event.

The team was happy. Their first race for 2005, and they had gathered some good data and feel confident with the bike. Dennis and the team are now looking forward to attending the WSID (Western Sydney International Motorplex) Summernationals, held on February 17,18 and 19.

Feel free to come and have a chat to Dennis and the team, ask Dennis questions about the bike, racing, or anything in general, or have your photo taken with the bike. We also have merchandise available.

See you at WSID in February
